Editor’s Note
At Piano Revenge MAG, we are particularly interested in artists whose musical journeys evolve beyond conventional career paths. Maxime Marquette’s return to the concert stage after nearly fifteen years devoted to music education offers a compelling example of an artistic practice renewed through different forms of engagement with music.
We were delighted to welcome Maxime to Piano Revenge Days in Vienna on 16–17 October 2026, where we had the opportunity to experience his pianistic abilities and the romantic sensibility of his original compositions firsthand. His participation in the festival made the release of “Suspended Moments” especially meaningful to us, allowing us to approach this new chapter of Endless Dreams with a personal understanding of the artist behind the music.
A suspended moment is not necessarily one of complete stillness.
As Maxime continues to share his compositions with audiences across Europe, we look forward to following the development of his musical language and discovering how each new release contributes to his evolving artistic identity.
At the heart of Endless Dreams lies the possibility of creating a personal connection through the piano — an instrument capable of expressing what words often cannot. With “Suspended Moments”, Marquette invites us to listen closely and rediscover the expressive power of a musical moment.
Between melody and introspection
In “Suspended Moments”, the central attraction is the relationship between musical expression and the feeling of time passing. The piano offers Marquette a particularly direct means of exploring this relationship: a melodic phrase can linger in the imagination, while the spaces between gestures invite the listener to remain with a musical thought a little longer.
The composition belongs to the contemporary piano landscape in which classical foundations meet a more immediate, cinematic approach to expression. Its appeal lies in the intimacy of the instrument and the possibility of finding emotional resonance without words. Rather than relying on a predetermined story, the music leaves room for individual associations, whether connected to memory, anticipation or quiet contemplation.
This is where the title becomes more than a poetic gesture. A suspended moment is not necessarily one of complete stillness; it is an experience in which our attention shifts, making an instant feel more substantial than its actual duration. The piano can suggest precisely this sensation through the shaping of melody, the movement of musical phrases and the interplay between sound and silence.
For Marquette, atmosphere is an important part of the composition’s identity, but it also serves a larger purpose: to create a space in which listeners can engage with the music on their own terms. The result belongs to an expressive tradition that values clarity, emotional accessibility and the imaginative possibilities of instrumental music.
A musical voice shaped by experience
Marquette’s artistic path adds an important dimension to this new release. A French pianist and composer based in Brussels, he received classical training at European conservatories and performed across Europe before turning much of his attention to music education. In 2010, he founded La Pause Musicale, a Brussels-based music school dedicated to listening, musical sensitivity and the transmission of knowledge.
After nearly fifteen years devoted to teaching and supporting young musicians, he returned to the concert stage in 2026, including a performance at Brussels’ Salle Henry Le Bœuf at BOZAR. This renewed commitment to performance has placed his own compositions at the heart of his current artistic activity.
His first album, The Road Taken, released in 2022, already reflected an interest in memory, life choices and the passage of time. With Endless Dreams, this introspective approach continues, taking a more intimate direction through a series of individual releases.
Marquette’s background in classical performance is relevant here not simply as biography, but as part of the context in which his compositions have developed. His work brings together a pianist’s understanding of the instrument and a composer’s interest in communicating experiences that are often difficult to articulate verbally.
We encountered Marquette during Piano Revenge Days in Vienna, where his performance offered a first-hand impression of his pianistic abilities and the romantic sensibility informing his original music. Hearing a composer perform his own work also provides a valuable perspective on the relationship between composition and interpretation: the music is not only an idea preserved in a recording, but an expression shaped by the person at the piano.
An evolving artistic world
The gradual development of Endless Dreams allows each composition to arrive as an independent encounter. Where “Your Universe” suggests an expansive inner landscape, “Suspended Moments” turns towards the individual instant — the memory or emotion that remains with us after an experience has passed.
The project’s visual dimension is developed in collaboration with digital artist Rank SSS, the artistic name of Sabrina Guechetouli, who has created artwork and music videos for the releases. This collaboration extends the imaginative world surrounding the music, while leaving the compositions free to establish their own meaning beyond the images accompanying them.
With “Suspended Moments”, Maxime Marquette continues to develop a musical language rooted in classical experience but oriented towards contemporary listening. The release offers an invitation to pause, to listen attentively and to discover what a simple piano composition can awaken in the listener.
Ultimately, the strength of this project will emerge through the individuality of its music and the lasting impression each composition leaves behind. “Suspended Moments” brings that ambition into focus, capturing the spirit of Endless Dreams in a work centred on the delicate relationship between sound, memory and time.
