Chantal Largier — Awakening
With Awakening, that world continues to expand. And perhaps the most fitting thing about Chantal’s music is that its central philosophy remains so simple:
Everything is possible
A new chapter in an evolving piano language
There is a particular intimacy to Chantal Largier’s music. Her compositions feel less like statements made to impress than moments captured from an inner world — emotions, memories, questions and discoveries translated into piano.
With her latest release, AWAKENING, Chantal continues a musical journey that has developed remarkably since her first release, TIMELESS, in 2022. What makes this newest work particularly interesting is not only the music itself, but the artistic evolution behind it.
Over the course of her releases, Chantal has gradually moved towards an increasingly personal compositional language. The titles of her works almost read like chapters of that journey:
TIMELESS, FEEL, GROWTH, TRUST THE PROCESS — and now AWAKENING
It is a progression from feeling to exploration, from growth to trust, and ultimately towards a greater sense of awareness.
From TIMELESS to AWAKENING
Chantal’s recording journey began with TIMELESS, released in February 2022. Looking back at it today, the release feels like the opening page of a new artistic chapter. Pieces such as Boundless, Touched, Hope, Strong Beliefs and Magical Moments already reveal the emotional vocabulary that would continue to develop throughout her work.
What makes TIMELESS particularly significant is the story behind its creation. Chantal’s transition into composition followed a period in which an accident temporarily prevented her from playing the piano. During that unexpected silence, free improvisation became a new way of expressing herself, and Boundless emerged from that experience.
The piano, which had accompanied her since childhood, was suddenly being approached from another perspective.
With FEEL, released later in 2022, that new compositional voice began to open further. The album moves more directly into the territory of emotion and human connection, with titles such as Feel, Open Your Heart, The Beginning, Beautiful Heart and Butterflies.
This was also the moment when Chantal consciously gave herself permission to create without unnecessary limitations. Her motto, “Everything is possible,” became more than an optimistic phrase. It became a creative philosophy.
That sense of freedom continued with GROWTH in 2023. The title itself suggests an artist becoming increasingly comfortable with her own voice, allowing composition to become not simply an artistic exercise, but a form of personal development.
Then came TRUST THE PROCESS in 2024.
By this point, the philosophy behind Chantal’s music had become increasingly clear. The five-track release, including Trust the Process, Be Your Own Light, Love Story, Snowflakes and If Dreams Come True, reflects an artist who is no longer concerned with having every answer before beginning the journey.
There is a certain wisdom in that progression.
First comes the feeling. Then the exploration. Then the growth. And eventually, the acceptance that the artistic process itself must be trusted.
The meaning of Awakening
Placed within this progression, Awakening feels like a natural next step.
The title suggests something coming into consciousness — a new perspective, a new understanding, perhaps even a rediscovery of something that has been present all along. And this is where Chantal’s development as a composer becomes particularly compelling.
The pianist who discovered the instrument at six years old, who later studied in Tokyo and Switzerland, performed extensively in China and taught generations of students, has accumulated an enormous amount of experience around the piano. But composition has given her the opportunity to turn that experience inward.
Her influences remain diverse. Beethoven has given her temperament, Chopin elegance, Liszt virtuosity, Einaudi simplicity and depth, while Andrew Lloyd Webber has contributed another sense of beauty to her musical imagination.
Yet the further she moves into her own compositions, the less important it becomes to identify where those influences begin and end.
What emerges instead is Chantal’s own language. It is a language based strongly on emotion and connection. She has described music as the language that allowed her to express herself as a shy child — a language through which she could become fully alive from within.
That idea remains at the heart of her work today. When Chantal plays, she describes becoming one with the piece. She feels the music physically and emotionally, experiencing goosebumps every time. And the feeling she hopes to create for her audience is precisely the same: the sensation of being reached by music on a deeper level.
This is perhaps the defining characteristic of her work. The music does not need to explain everything.
It leaves space for the listener.
A journey still unfolding
What makes Awakening particularly meaningful is that it does not feel like a conclusion. If anything, it suggests another beginning.
Chantal’s catalogue can now be viewed almost as a musical diary. TIMELESS introduced the world she was beginning to discover. FEEL opened the door to emotion. GROWTH reflected development. TRUST THE PROCESS embraced patience and uncertainty.
And AWAKENING brings another dimension to that journey.
There is something beautiful about seeing an artist return to the same instrument throughout an entire lifetime while continuing to discover new things within it.
For Chantal, the piano was first a language.
It became a profession, a career, a means of teaching and performing — and eventually, after an unexpected period of silence, a completely personal space for composition.
That evolution gives Awakening a significance beyond a single release. It represents another moment in the continuing discovery of what her own musical voice can become.
Our verdict
Awakening is a thoughtful continuation of Chantal Largier’s compositional journey — a journey that has become increasingly personal, emotionally open and confident with each release.
Rather than standing apart from her earlier work, the new release gains meaning when heard as part of the path that led to it.
From TIMELESS through FEEL, GROWTH and TRUST THE PROCESS, Chantal has gradually developed a musical world built around feeling, freedom, reflection and trust.
Everything is possible.
For an artist who found her voice through the piano as a child, lost the ability to play it for a time, and discovered composition through that silence, those words carry considerable weight.
They are no longer simply a motto. They are part of her story.
